Great rising!!! At times we find ourselves in a constant rat-race, rather taking care of our children, traveling to and from our place of employment or ownership, or just for leisure. This hustle and bustle has caused most of us in society to miss out on what is important to us in life, our inner-self. Society implemented its microwave system and we have chosen to conform. Social media, reality shows, and texting has all contributed to our minds racing at an express lane speeds.
Lately, I have notice that men have become more emotional, more sensitive about issues that years ago would not cause us to lash out. I have notice that men are lacking restraint, have less resolve when it come to social issues. Could over consumption of social media and reality shows be the reason? Could the comparison to others lifestyles contribute to the unsettling mindset and emotional torment? I think its safe to say that we have all been there at least once in our lifetime. Here are some of the ways that I encourage my brothers to detox from those problems.
We must protect our inner-selves. In the black community it has been taboo to discuss mental and emotional issues. We have to become one another support system. We must let down our concrete exterior. Nothing is wrong with talking to a brother if you are dealing with turmoil such as job loss, relationship problems, financial difficulties, or even loneliness. We have to understand that no one is perfect and we are human, we have feelings and that shouldn’t be masked. It is not healthy to get caught up in the smoky mirrors of social media and reality shows of every “making it”. Every one can’t possibly be multimillionaires and live an extravagant lifestyle. A lot of us are hurting, for various reasons.
In the meantime, if you can’t find someone to talk to or you feel like you will be judge or just don’t trust others with your thoughts and feelings I ask you to “Be Still”. Allow yourself time without social media. If you find yourself awaking in the morning to check twitter, facebook, instagram, or any other social media outlet, don’t. Take the time in the morning to simply breath, think positive thoughts and make time for self-reflection. You are unique, and should focus on that uniqueness. Allow yourself to draw positive energy by going outside becoming one with nature. Just because we are men do not mean we shouldn’t love nature and embrace all it offers. This is also a form of meditation. Make it a routine to write the things that are bothering you down, you may realize that they are not as important to your emotional and mental health as you thought, let them go. Don’t take yourself so serious and learn to laugh at your mistakes, this shapes character and enhances growth. Mental and internal health are more important than chasing a paycheck and keeping up with the masses.
Remember mental health is important. You should never neglect it nor suppress it. We are spiritual brothers and have to get back to loving and supporting one another as such. We must learn as well as teach the youth how to take care the inner-self and respect the inner-self and along with that will come the physical out-put. Our love for one-another must become endless, we must become open to listen and understand before we condemn. Lets all start today with healing our inner-selves, we deserve it. And remember, that positive outer is a reflection of the positive within, very necessary for the progression begin.
